The role of coffee in people\u2019s lives varies from the functional to the ritualistic and is a strong enabler of social gatherings around the world. Most people have a favourite coffee brewing method or at least one they use the most whether out of habit or preference.<\/span><\/p>

Drinking this magnificent beverage, brewed from the seed of the same plant \u2013 Coffea Canephora (also known as Coffea Robusta) and Coffea Arabica \u2013 plays a crucial role in so many people\u2019s lives and has given rise to the specialty coffee or the \u2018Third Wave movement\u2019- a movement dedicated to providing high-quality coffee that’s brewed to perfection from farm to cup.<\/p>

But how did it reach this level of popularity? To answer that question, we have to travel back in time to the 17th century.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Noble tree legends<\/h4>

Once they had discovered it, the coffee tree was quickly brought back to Europe by Dutch and English traders who began to study the characteristics of what was soon to go by the name of the \u201cNoble tree\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The European love affair with coffee<\/h4>

Coffee soon arrived in Europe on board some of the many sailing ships that navigated the Mediterranean. It made its first appearance in Venice between the 16<\/span>th<\/span> and 17<\/span>th<\/span> centuries thanks to Prospero Alpino from Padua.<\/span><\/p>

The rise of the modern roaster<\/h4>

Before discovering the roasting process, and with it the possibility of making a drink, coffee seeds were used together with animal fat in a sort of energy bar ante litteram to be taken during on long journeys such as when merchants crossed the desert. It were also used by monks and priests to stay awake during long prayer vigils.
